The BET Awards are an annual celebration of Black culture. It’s an opportunity to acknowledge top performers and, more importantly, show off beautiful evening wear. Award ceremony host Taraji P. Henson even changed into 14 different outfits during the event.
Nobody makes evening gowns quite like Dolce & Gabbana, and many artists at the ceremony stunned on the red carpet in their creations. D&G’s beautiful and bold styles were on display, and the performers who wore them looked fabulous. Here are some of the highlights.
Marsai Martin
Marsai Martin is an actress and producer best known for her portrayal of Diane Johnson on the ABC sitcom Black-ish. She received numerous awards for her breakthrough performance, including BET’s YoungStars Award in 2017 and 2018 as well as 2019. She won the award again at this ceremony.
Marsai Martin wore not one but two Dolce & Gabbana designs at the event. She wore a stunning silver Dolce & Gabbana dress with spaghetti straps. The dress was embellished with diamonds and had a fringed skirt. To complete the look, she wore double platform heels covered with Swarovski crystals.
The young actress later revealed to reporters that she made up her mind about the dress before she even tried it on. “I knew it was the one, for sure,” she said.
Before accepting her YoungStars Award, she changed into a white bustier and denim mini skirt. She topped her outfit off with a gold embellished jacket and camouflage patchwork boots.
Mariah Carey
Mariah Carey has been in the limelight for decades as a famous singer and songwriter as well as a record producer and actress. She has won numerous awards over the years, including the BET Award for Best Female R&B Artist and Viewer’s Choice.
Carey made a surprise performance at the BET Awards, joining award-winning rap artist Latto who performed the song Big Energy. She made a dramatic appearance on stage wearing a custom-made Dolce & Gabbana velvet silk gown with a long gold train. She completed the look with metallic gold sandals.
A couple of weeks later, the pop star attended D&G’s Alta Moda event, appearing alongside the designers themselves. She wore a curvy gown with a train made out of fabric that resembled Sicilian tiles. She carried a fan to ward off the heat while producing plenty of it herself in her daring, low-cut dress. Her curly locks were loose and topped with a rhinestone tiara, a must-have at Alta Moda.
Dominique Jackson
Dominique Jackson is an actress known for her leading role as Elektra Abundance in the hit FX series Pose. She is also an author and model as well as a reality television personality.
At the BET Awards show, she wore a printed mini dress by Dolce & Gabbana with a shirred waist. She completed the ensemble with rhinestone earrings and a black clutch. She also wore colorful strappy heels.
From memorable performances to dazzling costumes, the BET Awards presented the best in Black entertainment and culture. Dolce & Gabbana gowns complemented the event, bringing out the best in those who wore them.
