On Saturday September 17th, 2011, the annual Night Without Boundaries evening benefit was hosted by the Sheba International Leadership Council (SILC) across from the New York Stock Exchange in the Broad Street Ballroom.
An international crowd of young professionals came to support the pioneering work of the Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer. Known as the “Hospital Without Boundaries”, the SILC is committed to advancing Sheba’s mission of “Global Healing” and providing first-rate medical care regardless of race, ethnicity, and religion for anyone in the Middle East.
The ambience of the event was unique, with the elegant ballroom getting a New York City street fair makeover. With food vendors, pretzels, and all the classic street delicacies in cute Lilliputian proportions, it was hard to resist the edibles by KG Fare. Main DJ Danny Chetrit and the free-flowing Voli Vodka and wine provided by Gabriella Fine Wines & Importers kept the well-heeled crowd lively, but the performances set the city vibe. Dancers were on stage throughout the night with special acts like Amazing Amy the Contortionist, breakdancers, and even a Capoeira dancer. Emcee Chas Pearson warmed partygoers for an amazing Battle of the DJs pitting DJs Lil Ray, Mursi Lane, Rawbeatz, and NYC against each other.
Despite allowing last minute ticket sales at the door which can be rather chaotic, the benefit was well very well organized and they even took credit cards for door purchases! It was easy to spot event coordinators in their Torn shirts designed exclusively for the event by Latin-infused creative t-shirt brand SPƎNGLISH owner Simon Guindi Cohen.
This event is not one to miss, especially if you’re a philanthropic young Jewish professional looking for a casual-chic downtown affair. It is the perfect charitable excuse to network with likeminded New Yorkers for a secular cause, regardless of religious affiliation. After such a successful event it will be hard to top next year, but I have the feeling event co-chairs Lapo Elkann, Lisane Basquiat and visionary Jane Oster will have something up their sleeves. With the co-creator of Day & Night brunch club, Daniel Koch, on the event committee, you know it will be a fun time!
Happy Partying (for a good cause),
Jenicka
