Every serious wine aficionado knows that Greece is known for, among other things, winemaking. Some of the oldest and best wines come from Greece, which has nearly 5,000 years of winemaking history.
My girlfriend and I had the opportunity to attend the Second Annual Taste of Greece event at City Winery NYC hosted by Wines of Greece and Friends of Boroume.
The food was offered by some of NYCs finest Greek and Mediterranean restaurants including The Greek Ouzerie & Taverna,Thalassa in Tribeca, Avra Estiatorio, Molyvos, AMALI Sustainable Mediterranean, Chef Michael Psilakis’ KEFI andPeriyali, which has been around since 1987.
The beautiful live musical performances from composer Nikos Plios, singer Irini Haridou, Bouzouki player Konstantinos Mitsios and violinist Christos Dalianis, who just arrived from Athens, Greece to perform in NYC, really added to the Mediterranean feel of the evening. If you know your Greek composers (and I don’t), they played many traditional and folk songs from Hatzidakis, Theodorakis, Tsitsanis and many others in the rich pantheon of Greek artists.
On the way home from our exceptional evening, my girlfriend and I began talking about a visit to Greece. We’re hoping to make a short trip this summer! Thanks to the Second Annual Taste of Greece event for stirring our appetites!!
