What do a renowned designer, a world-wide socialite, an Olympic gymnast, and a porn star have in common?
They all attended the Abbey Dawn by Avril Lavigne Spring 2010 show! Held at the Metropolitan Pavilion on Monday, September 14th, 2009, celebrities and tweens alike caused a ruckus waiting for the runway show to begin. Presented by Style360, Abbey Dawn, a punk-rock juniors brand for Kohl’s, was set to the the songs of Avril’s various hits, including “Girlfriend,” “Complicated,” and “Sk&r Boi” to get the audience pumped.
Tommy Hilfiger was there to support Ms. Lavigne, along with Nicky Hilton, Olympic gymnast winner Nastia Lukin, and adult entertainer Ron Jeremy. Why they thought it was appropriate to have a porn star attending a runway show with designs for kids, I’m not sure I understand, but it’s a good thing that Hilfiger was the spotlight. The celebs obviously snagged the prime first-row seats, but there was also a special standing section roped off especially for hyper tween girls that were soooooo excited to see Avril’s line and screaming with excitement at a moment’s notice. Was I at a Jonas Brothers concert?
The models strutted definitively down the runway sporting the quintessential punk rock looks: graphic tees, skinny jeans, ripped leggings, lots of layers, and plaids & stripes, with the ocassional top hat and suspenders. Their hairstyle also mimicked their designer’s, her signature long straightened hair defiantly covering half of the face, or else teased for a tousled, rebellious look.
Along with the tall leggy models, the runway also featured four cute, adorable girls who represent the target demographic for Abbey Dawn. As each one of them raced down the runway, their fans from the VIP standing shrieked with excitement as supporting friends.
At the end of the show, Avril herself came out in an adorably cute, poofy lace dress and made one of her signature ‘rocking out’ faces – the finale!
Yours,
Von
