Tony Elumelu, a Nigerian entrepreneur and philanthropist was rewarded with the AAI Leadership Award in business and Philanthropy. When Tony Elumelu entered the stage to receive the award the crowd in the ball room went wild with applause and cheers. A very famous and beloved man throughout Africa.

Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella, now the special representative of the UN Secretary  General Ban Ki-moon received the AAi Distinguished Alumnus Award.

Last but not least the president for the Chevron Departments of Africa and Latin America Ali Moshiri received on behalf of Chevron the AAI Corporate Award for its corporate responsibility initiatives across Africa.

African Heads of State and top diplomats exchanged perspectives on Africa’s past, present and future in an exclusive, unscripted conversation with H.E. Hailemariam Dessalegn, Prime Minister of Ethiopia and Chair of the African Union; H.E. Hifikepunye Pohamba, President of Namibia; The Honorable Hannah Tetteh, Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs; and The Honorable Bernard Membe, Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs.

We were all also treated to an official congratulatory letter from President Barack Obama delivered to us by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Linda Thomas-Greenfield.
