On Friday, December 12th, 2014 Alex’s Team Foundation held their first signature Living Out Loud fundraising event at the Boston Park Plaza hotel.
Alex’s Team Foundation, Inc. was established in June 2002 in remembrance of Andover, MA native Alexandra Jane Miliotis, who lost her battle to Leukemia on March 15, 2002 at the age of 16. All proceeds from Alex’s Team Foundation funds the Alexandra J. Miliotis Pediatric Oncology Fellowship and Alexandra Jane Miliotis Pediatric Oncology Nursing Endowment in partnership with Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Dana Farber Cancer Institute’s Walensky Laboratory.
With over 400 guests in attendance and a great cocktail hour sponsored by Ketel One, (complete with ice sculpture and all) the evening started off well with guests posing in front of a step-and-repeat and checking out the various silent auction and raffle items.
Everyone was treated to a delicious three-course meal with wine prior to the program starting. Berklee School of Music, DJ Steve Minor and The Fabulous Shittons kept the crowd entertained throughout the night while special guest and former Boston Bruin player Rick Middleton was another highlight of the evening as he auctioned off Bruins memorabilia.
Alex’s team cofounders Arianna and Geordie Miliotis welcomed partygoers to their late sister’s namesake event prior to Alex’s nurses (Lisa Morissey, Pam Dockx and Kendal Temple) sharing some touching stories about their experiences caring for her. Then the “Alex’s Team Fellows” were invited onstage to help honor Dr. Loren Walensky of Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
I was very impressed that an inaugural event was so well planned and orchestrated, not to mention well attended. The evening managed to retain a rather intimate air despite the large space and hundreds of people. Remember to bring cash for next year’s event as you will surely want to buy raffle and drink tickets to assist fundraising efforts.
Cheers to looking forward to another Alex’s Team signature event!
Happy Living Out Loud,
Jenicka
