On Saturday, November 23, over five hundred well-heeled philanthropists attended the Boston Children’s Hospital League’s Sweet Dreams and Silver Linings Gala at the Intercontinental Hotel.
Since beginning their efforts to raise funds for patient and family services, research, education, and capital improvements for Boston Children’s Hospital, the League has donated more than $15 million dollars. Their annual gala is their biggest fundraising event, as evidenced by the wide variety of amazing and unique silent and live auction packages and items.
Following a cocktail hour, a five-star dinner was served in the reception hall which had been transformed to resemble a beautiful starry night. The crowd was especially lighthearted and fun, there was even a conga line going on the dance floor prior to guests taking their seats. The food was fittingly spectacular since the emcee for the evening was the Phantom Gourmet’s Dan Andelman. I enjoyed the best tasting and well-presented salad I have seen in a long time, followed by filet mignon and perfectly cooked sea bass with an Asian flare.
Boston Children’s Hospital President and CEO Sandra Fenwick began the program’s remarks and introduced the event co-chairs Nicole Clark and Marci Katz. Undoubtedly, the most touching part of the evening was when former hospital patient and guest speaker Leanna Healey took to the podium. Her emotional and heartfelt speech on the helpfulness of the programs funded by the League garnered a standing ovation from the audience.
Following a live auction, the boisterous crowd hit the dance floor in a huge way before parting for the evening with swag bags replete with goodies. For Bostonians who like good food and having fun for good causes, their next gala should absolutely be added to your social calendar.
Happy Sweet Dreaming,
Jenicka
