Couture Fashion Week at the Waldorf-Astoria began its shows Friday September 10, 2010 at the Grand Ballroom. The first show started at 4pm with Amal Sarieddine, Romanitza and Sushma Patel.
The first day was unorganized and thrown together as if the day was a complete surprise and with the amount of press showing up that day I was surprised they were so strict with the people they let in as press. Not the best beginning for the Couture Fashion Week.
Amal Sarieddine, the first to show her collection, did not have the best show. Even though this was her first show at Fashion Week in New York and people was waiting with anticipation, DISASTER struck on stage when several of her pieces had to be carried or held together by the models as they were walking the runway. The dresses which needed an extra hand took away the attention of the rest of the dresses, which was a shame because they were beautiful. Sunday in between shows she had fixed some of the dresses when she was having them photographed once more.
Romanitza was the second to show her collection. She presented only ten dresses which were unimpressive. Her collection had beautiful dresses and a theme of transparency and her choice of fabrics was amazing unfortunately the cuts were uninspiring and made the dresses seem as if it had been seen before.
I had been waiting to see Sushma Patel that day and I was not disappointed. Even though I did not like having to sit through two other shows to see the one of interest I enjoyed the event and I was glad that I waited, so that I could see her collection. Her head dresses she had used in her collection was impeccable and really gave the collection a good twist. The audience seemed to love her when she came out to thank them, with great applause and hugs from the audience she ended the last show of the night a lot better than how it began.
