The energy was high at Industria Superstudio in the trendy meatpacking district for the Duckie Brown fashion show.
Even when the music stopped unexpectedly in the middle of the show, the models continued to march, as if to say, “the show must go on.” Designers Steven Cox and Daniel Silver showcased layered looks for Fall/Winter. Unanticipated pairings like a camel-colored, knee-grazing sweatshirt over a denim jacket and a black bomber that topped a long, tweed herringbone coat were shown along with classic tailored wool trousers.
Outerwear was prominently featured on the runway in the form of double-breasted wool coats in shades of crimson and ivory, a tan donkey jacket, a two-toned nylon track jacket and even a shearling baseball coat.
The design duo behind Duckie Brown has not been afraid to take risks; past runway shows have included mixing and matching different patterns, prints and proportions. This presentation was a bit more subdued, but no less appealing than before. Still, the former CFDA nominees for the Menswear of the Year award stuck to the design aesthetics that they are known for with this collection: bright, bold colors, an eclectic mix of fabrics and impeccable tailoring.
Notable faces in the crowd included stylist and TV host Robert Verdi, runway expert J. Alexander of America’s Next Top Model, and bloggers Travis Gumbs and Joshua Kissi of Street Etiquette. It’s a safe bet that these trendsetters will be spotted in pieces from the Duckie Brown collection soon.
