As someone that does not discriminate against the boroughs that are not Manhattan, I’ve been a big fan of Freehold in Brooklyn for awhile now, so much so that I applied and was accepted into their Freeholder membership. It gets me exclusive happy hours, expedited entry and reservations, private event and concert invitations, among other perks.

That was all before Executive Chef Roy Wohlars, came on board, so Freehold has definitely upped the ante for ensuring Freehold as a destination where people should be. Coming from Soho House veterans, Brice Jones and Brad Gallagher, this does not come as a surprise.

A space that has indoor, outdoor and game room options and vibe varies from coffee shop scene during the day to club vibe at night… it really is delivering something for everyone.

Socially Superlative had the distinct pleasure of tasting the entire menu and some of the summer cocktail list from the current menu and it did not disappoint. We started at the outside bar and were invited to try the Waterbury, a concoction of Stoli vodka, house-blended fresh watermelon and fresh lime. The other option was a Hot Ex, made with Herradura tequila, Freehold hot sauce, grapefruit and fresh lime… not for the faint of heart.

We were then escorted upstairs for our family style dinner in the mezzanine. Some of the highlights from the first course have to include the Deviled Eggs and the Everything Bagel Salad was something you aren’t going to get anywhere else.

From the second courses, there were so many standout dishes. All the dishes were hearty and filling and brought something new to the table.

We did a burger off between the Impossible Burger and the Ribeye Burger and as good as the plant based patty was, you can’t beat the real thing. (Sorry veggie eaters!)

The Handmade Spaghetting with Heirloom Tomato Sauce was a surprise, as you wouldn’t expect to get good pasta at a place that is serving so many different menu items. It was a solid dish.

The Truffle Fries were another surprise as there was just mounds of fresh truffle on top and it does not cost a million dollars. GET THIS! The Whole Roasted Eggplant was also an interesting dish where the rice noodles and tahini worked well together.

For someone that has a severe sweet tooth, I was heartbroken that I was too full after the savory dishes to taste the dessert, but best believe I will be back for it.
