Beginning March 2012 and just in time for the warm summer celebrations and cocktail mixing, Malibu is teaming up with Ne-Yo bringing you a new bottle: Malibu Red.

In Malibu Red, you still get the smooth flavor of coconut rum like in traditional Malibu, but with an added zest of fiery silver tequila.  Throw Ne-Yo into the mix and it makes it in a 70-proof bottle of absolute awesomeness.  He was dubbed the ‘Chief Creative Officer’ behind this, after all.

This fusion of Malibu Rum and tequila is so smooth that it can be enjoyed chilled straight up.  With a side of lime, if you so choose.

Even in cocktails, the best method is to keep it simple – just a splash of soda – or use Malibu Red to give a boring ol’ margarita a new life.

Malibu Red and Lemon Lime Soda

  • 1 part Malibu Red
  • 2 parts lemon lime soda
  • Lime wedge

Stir all ingredients on rock ice in a highball glass.  Garnish with a squeezed lime wedge.

Malibu Red Margarita

  • 2 parts Malibu Red
  • 1 part lime juice
  • 1 part agave syrup

Stir all ingredients on rock ice in a cocktail glass. Garnish with a squeezed lime wedge.
