As I headed due west on 34th Street toward Patiala on West 34th, I felt like CNN food adventurer personality Anthony Bourdain setting off on the road to an esoteric eatery.
Owner Mohan Sharma warmly greeted me upon arrival. He immediately began to explain the food arrayed before customers’ eyes in a glass-fronted display area which makes it easy to choose meals and receive immediate service.
He said that Patiala, which serves food from the Punjab region of India and Pakistan, specializes in serving high-end cuisine in a fast food manner. (Punjabi cuisine emphasizes onion, garlic, and ginger and includes Tandoori cooking.) New items are prepared every day using fresh vegetables, ground spices, lamb, lentils, and kidney beans.
