Gotham Magazine celebrate their latest issue with a fabulous fête at the Peninsula Hotel‘s rooftop bar, Salon de Ning, for their coverman, Daniel Radcliffe.
Dan-Rad is universally synonymous with Harry Potter, but to those who prefer the Broadway spotlights over the IMAX screens, he’s known as J. Pierrepoint Finch in the 50th anniversary production of the Tony Award/Pulitzer Prize winning musical comedy, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.
The revival is directed and choreographed by Tony and Emmy Award winner Rob Ashford, and Dan-Rad sings, dances, and jumps onstage alongside John Larroquette and the lovely, charming Rose Hemingway as his onstage romantic interest. And you probably won’t see him, but Anderson Cooper makes his Broadway debut – as the voice of the narrator.
The Gotham Mag party was an unusually calm and organized affair, and Radcliffe took the time to take photos, talk to fans, and politely answer all of our very pressing questions (such as, “What would YOUR Patronus look like??”). But really, he was very chill and easy-going, one of the few that hasn’t let super stardom go to his head. Perhaps it’s a British thing.
When asked his feeling about the ending of the Harry Potter series with the last movie coming out soon, he said that he hasn’t had a chance to think about it so much since he’s been fully immersed in the Broadway show; rest assured, when the time comes for the premieres and promoting the movie, he will be fully immersed back into Harry Potter-mode. In regards to the rumors that J.K. Rowling was going to write another book, he said that he frantically texted her asking if it was true. But, she told him that she would refrain from writing another Harry Potter book as a reward for him doing so well.
Speaking of texting, Radcliffe admitted that he’s a big texter, but not so much on Facebook or Twitter. He didn’t even know what Foursquare was! We asked what he does to wind down after a big day, and he says that he enjoys spending time at home playing Xbox or watching the History Channel. After his stint on Broadway and 8 global blockbuster films, he’s not sure what’s in store for him, but has considered directing or writing as possible next moves.
Want to win Dan-Rad over? He gushed over the macaroni and cheese with bacon from Ditch Plains and cheesy fries from Shake Shack, so maybe try to woo him by bringing some for him after his show.
We love you, Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe! Congrats to you and all your well-deserved successes!
Yours,
Von
