On Friday, November 16, 2018, philanthropists donning their chicest resort wear came together in Boston to raise fund for the annual Shades of Hope Gala hosted by IMPACT Melanoma, formerly the Melanoma Foundation of New England.
This year the IMPACT team paired up yet again with SD Events to transform the always lovely Four Seasons Hotel into a tropical themed getaway – all the more fitting to spread their message of safer sun exposure and melanoma awareness. Guests enjoyed a sumptuous VIP reception with oysters, bubbly, and light fare courtesy of Top Chef alum and Sweet Cheeks owner, Chef Tiffani Faison prior to a delicious dinner buffet and raw bar.
Dining Playbook’s (and new mother) Jenny Johnson emceed the evening and doubled as auctioneer extraordinaire, helping raise over $79,000 during the new “Ginger Fund Game” in the $100 dash to win a trip to Charleston. IMPACT’s Executive Director Deb Girard presented this year’s Suzanne Donahue Keeper of the Hope Award to honoree Ken Driscoll for his work with the Foundation through his role as CEO of Solect Energy to promote IMPACT’s advocacy and “Safe Skin at Work” program. Speakers Tracy Cockerham and Elana Schwam reminded us all of how important IMPACT’s crucial work is and that melanoma can truly impact anyone at any stage in their lives.
The evening was a resounding success, with guests enjoying the delectable food, open bar, and lively auctions, with over $365,000 raised at this year’s annual Shades of Hope Gala. This is truly a “must attend” charity event to add to your social calendar – I just don’t know how they will keep outdoing themselves every year!
Happy Shading,
Jenicka
