“Last day, last day, last day… omg, what will we do tomorrow???

So here I am once again at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, still not fully recovered from yesterday – 10, yes you read that correctly, 10 fashion shows plus backstages and after-parties in one day… totally fun but holy crap does it take it out of ya.  Gearing up for the Isaac Mizrahi runway show at The Theatre which starts shortly… wow, what a huge line and in the A.M. – this should be good.  Cool, I recognize him – that’s figure skater Johnny Weir… oh, and look over there, that’s TV personality, Robert Verdi.”

The above were just some thoughts that I had before walking into the craziness that is a runway show at Fashion Week.  Countless photographers were already poised in their placements waiting for the show to start, tons of others were mingling about near their seats saying hi to friends, colleagues and interviewers. 

Some big names in the house were InStyle Fashion Director Hal Rubenstein, Chef Lidia Bastianich, actress Yaya DaCosta, blogger Bryan Boy, producer Lauren Zalaznick, TV personality Andy Cohen, European Editor-at-Large for Vogue, Hamish Bowles, writer Amy Fine Collins, singer Jay Sean, model Veronica Webb, Creative Director of ELLE Magazine, Joe Zee and editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar Glenda Bailey.  Sssshhhh everybody… the show’s about to start.

An elegant but boring collection is what Isaac Mizrahi showed during the runway show of his Spring 2011 collection.  The clothes were executed to perfection and the dresses were elegant, though I believed the choice of fabrics, more specifically the color palette and the chiffon covering many of the dresses, were not as elegant as the designs themselves.  The prints on the fabrics were weak and looked cheap and the chiffon weakened the effect of the already chosen fabrics.

The collars and cuffs added on as a style-effect for the dresses did not do improve the collection as they looked too misplaced with his very elegant and delicate fabrics.  The overall styling was uptight and was just as misplaced as the collars and cuffs.  The tightly back-combed hair gave a very conservative look and the red lipstick was too strong for the very weak colors used in the collection.

Unfortunately, there was no backstage time after the runway show as Isaac had to jet – but that’s ok as it gave me time to chill with some people in the lobby area before the next show.
