There’s no doubt that I was looking forward to seeing Gwen Stefani’s outfits from her clothing line L.A.M.B., which stands for Love Angel Music Baby, walk down the runway on Thursday at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. For me it was the last runway show that I attended for the Spring / Summer 2011 season and The Theatre had a crescendo-like energy to it.
Did you know you could be fierce wearing boots from Payless??? Well, His Fierceness himself, designer Christian Siriano, said of the footwear his longtime boyfriend, singer/songwriter Brad Walsh was wearing, “Those are MY boots that he is wearing and they are from Payless.” I didn’t ask but now I’m wondering if he meant that the boots simply belonged to his line of low-cost shoes or if they actually belonged to him personally?
Other celebs I saw in attendance who definitely were NOT a hot mess were Scary Spice herself, Melanie Brown, R&B singer Omarion, complete with a wardrobe change from an earlier show I saw him at, fellow No Doubt band members guitarist Tom Dumont and bassist Tony Kanal, singer Debbie Harry and musician Gavin Rossdale, Gwen’s husband (with yours truly in the pic).
L.A.M.B. by No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani was a mix of tribal, whimsical and fun punk. She gave trivial tribal prints new life and her draped dresses were beautifully designed and sexy for any who would wear them. However, her pants were a little too “horse-riding” in style and would make anyone who wasn’t a size 0 or 2 look like they had gained 20 pounds around the ass, hip and thighs.
It was, however, truly an innovative spin of what’s up and coming at the moment though, besides from the bright colors in the tribal prints, I didn’t see much Spring and Summer in her collection. The collection is brought together by the tribal fabrics and pants which are repeated throughout the collection as Gwen Stefani said herself, she only wanted to “tackle the tribal aspect of the fabrics.” Besides from the rock-star aspect in her clothing, which was very attractive, it was not a new and inspiring collection.
Backstage it was a little calmer than usual, well at first, due to security only letting back select people but there was still a huge crowd waiting for Gwen, Gavin, Debbie and others to emerge from the closed-off VIP area. Soon there was one of my favorite champagnes flowing (Veuve Clicquot), interviews being given left and right, congratulations galore and I even got to thank Gavin for the great time I had at a Bush concert I attended over 8 years ago in San Francisco.
Thanks, Gwen… see you in February… or maybe at a concert before then. Is either Bush or No Doubt playing New York soon?

P.S. For me, Spring / Summer 2011 is now done here at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center. I had a blast … made some new friends, bumped into some old ones, saw some amazing collections, talked to a bunch of very talented designers, had food and drinks with celebs and, most importantly, got a fresh new outlook on the fashion world as a whole. Ciao4now!
