It’s easy to get lost in the West Village, and just as difficult to narrow down which of the many restaurants in the neighborhood are worth a visit. One such worthy place is Left Bank, a French-inspired bistro helmed by Chef Laurence Edelman.

Chef Edelman is a champion of using locally sourced produce with ethical farming practices, and the high quality ingredients is highlighted in every dish served. Because they use in-season ingredients for optimal taste, the menu is constantly changing and evolving – which means you can always return to Left Bank and try something new!

We started with some shared appetizers, and we had a difficult time narrowing down our options because they all sounded amazing. Coming off of tomato season, we opted to try the heirloom tomatoes topped with a dijon-shallot pistou sauce. A healthy dish with a dose of flavor!

We followed the tomatoes with more tomatoes in the grilled octopus dish with cherry tomatoes and chiles with preserved lemon. The octopus was thick yet tender and flavorful.

For our first main dish we had the tagliatelle alla bolognese with slow-cooked beef and pork ragu. This was everything you want in a pasta dish: hearty and comforting.

One of their most ordered entrees is their chicken. The iron roasted chicken dish is impressive not only in its enormity, but it is cooked very tenderly with a roasted tomato salsa, Swiss chard, and jalapenos. While the iron roasted chicken is a staple on their menu, the accompanying ingredients change based on seasonality, so be sure to try them all!

To further highlight their chicken, Left Bank offers a Monday night takeout-only special that includes a full roasted chicken, potatoes, and greens, all for $35! It can feed up to 4 people, but if you want it all for yourself, no judgments here. Be sure to call ahead (212.727.1170) to place your order in advance.

We concluded our meal with dessert which included options like maple syrup pie, dark chocolate espresso mousse, affogato, and seasonal sorbets. We opted for the tiramisu, which was a bit “deconstructed” looking. Still delicious, of course!

Stop by Left Bank during your next West Village outing, or better yet pick up their Monday chicken meal special and enjoy a home-cooked meal in the comfort of your own home without all the effort.
