On Tuesday, April 24th, Mr. Robata celebrated their one year anniversary by hosting a group of influential media and bloggers for a tasting menu.
Guests were expertly greeted by the attentive staff and immediately offered a beverage. We opted to try the Sangria Saketini, which was sweet, strong and beautifully garnished with a slice of kiwi and blackberry.
Waiters began to circulate the dishes for the night and started with a Foie Gras Cappuccino with miso foie gras broth, which was served in a shooter glass. The taste was light and refreshing.
The Sashimi Martini was a mixture of diced toro, salmon, yellowtail and king crab served surprisingly on wasabi mashed potatoes in a one bite concoction. Two of the meatier dishes were a honey- glazed soy sauce chicken with wasabi cream cheese and the ‘Wagyu’ Sliders served with guacamole and sauteed mushrooms.
The next wave of food was comprised of different rolls. We not only got a chance to try a more conventional shrimp tempura roll, but also got to sample a New York New York roll, comprised of spicy tuna, macadamia nuts, toro scallion and avocado, wrapped in seared tuna and topped with wasabi cream cheese, eel sauce and a rice cracker.
The tasting was a great excuse to check out this trendy, modern restaurant nestled in the heart of Times Square. I would recommend it to anyone that is tired of usual Asian cuisine that want to try someplace that has fresh and innovative food… not to mention that they have half-priced drinks from 4:00 -6:00 pm during the week! I’ll definitely be back to try their fondue and dessert options.
