Nolcha Fashion Week has been called “a hot incubator of new fashion design talent,” by Forbes and they did not disappoint with their Fall/Winter 2013 presentation the night of February 13th at the Pier 59 Studios. Having attending Nolcha’s shows before, this was the biggest one to date.
Socially Superlative were seated front row, next to theater star Krystal Joy Brown of the forthcoming Big Fish musical, who was outfitted in designer Dany Tabet. We were also seated across from Kacie Boguskie from The Bachelor fame, VH1’s Carrie Keagan and singer Guinevere, among others.
The multiple designer show kicked off with JUNGWON, who showcased a line of colorful raincoats with style, sophistication and practicality.
The line brought a more feminine shape to a more than usually drab fashion necessity. The detachable hoods, structured silhouettes and attention to detail, like matching covers for bags, made this a definite runway to street style line.
Next up was Samantha Cole’s collection, which immediately added the sass of Rusk’s signature faux-hawk look, styled by Rusk’s Artistic Director Gerard Caruso.
The geometric patterns were almost as loud as the tunes like Evanescence that blared through the speakers as the models strutted down the catwalk. The black, grey and playful pop of yellow made the line one that any sassy New Yorker would gladly pick up from London.
Lilly Lorraine followed third, showcasing sophisticated silhouettes in comfortable fabrics, and contrasting black, grey, and beige with a vibrant red.
The pieces would be perfect for any NYC woman to effortlessly transition from fall to winter in an elegant way.
The final treat was Dany Tabet’s Haute Couture line, which was dripping with stunning embellishments, dresses varying from floor length to barely there length and plunging necklines and back lines.
As each dress hit the runway, the “oohs” and “aahs” of the crowd progressively got louder. If the line didn’t get enough buzz on its’ own, Dany proposing to his “muse” at the end of the show with a iconic Tiffany box definitely did!
Between the cutting edge fashion, flashy celebrity sightings and unexpected proposal, everyone experienced an unforgettable night thanks to Nolcha!
