To celebrate the opening of Untapped Hair, the latest project of creative mastermind and celebrity stylist, Sergio D’Larosa, the doors were opened to the whimsically decorated, retreat-like space he now calls Salon. Sergio and his partner-in-crime (aka publicist of Untapped PR) played charming hosts to the intimate, press/invite-only event.
Originally from Buenos Aries, the former model and actor has been in salons since the age of 12, and had his hands on some pretty impressive hair, including the likes of Natasha Bedingfield, Christy Brinkley.
D’Larosa’s dream has always been to open up his own salon—something that transcends the typical cut and dry experience (excuse the pun)—not only giving clients high quality cuts and treatments, but inviting them into a world of cutting-edge design, art, and music as well. Now, in a West Village loft, his dream has become a reality.
By invitation only (which is obtained by visiting the website), clients are welcomed into the world of D’Larosa, and invited to “pay what they wish” for his services. This revolutionary approach to pricing is inspired by D’Larosa’s sincere desire to work with all people who truly appreciate great style, and is also his way of helping during the struggling economy. The loft will eventually also be a gallery/show room for up-and-coming artists and designers—completing the aesthetic utopia.
The salon space itself is a nice balance of artistic flair and modern elegance, complimented by the hand-picked furniture and soothing soundtrack. On the weekends, the client’s experience will be deliciously capped off with NUVO Vodka cocktails (which were served at the opening, and very well received).
All in all, D’Larosa’s salon does achieve the remarkable effect of transporting his clients to a stylish, relaxed world that welcomes them, regardless of economic status, and ultimately transforms them under D’Larosa’s chic, stylish hand.
