October 22nd: Undeniably, the air in New York is getting increasingly chillier in preparation for the winter. Fortunately, the upside to the cold weather is the opening of the ice skating rink in Central Park! Located in the southern part of the park, the Wollman Rink celebrated the beginning of their ice skating season with an opening reception for event planners, members of the media, and ice skating aficionados.
With food provided by Relish Caterers, guests mingled and enjoyed different tasting stations and passed hor d’oeuvres. At the drink counters, the Wollman Rink’s signature hot chocolate was served – extra whipped cream, please! Outside, a heated tent was set up for dessert: freshly made crepes with your choice of toppings, along with an assortment of pastries that were continuously being replenished.
A small number of guests skilled enough brought their own skates, but for the rest of us a pair of freshly sharpened skates was provided. Also for novices who aspired to do more than cling to the walls, the staff provided mini private lessons. Back inside there was also a Rock Band jam session, a photo booth, a “sound bite” mock TV station, and – in true Trump style – a makeshift casino with blackjack, roulette, and craps where guests were given $100 in chips to waste away.
